Perhaps the most obvious place to start when discussing the most beautiful places in Canada is Banff National Park and its magnificent Lake Louise. Take the gondola up Sulphur Mountain for an incredible view of some of the world’s most dramatic mountain scenery, then explore the park’s stunning waterfalls, forests, and glacier lakes, including vibrant Lake Louise, an unlike-anywhere-else oasis in the Canadian Rockies.

Where to stay: Elegant Mount Royal Hotel has a Banff-themed library, rooftop hot tubs, a lobby museum, and modern decor that echoes the destination.

Jasper National Park

Jasper is the Canadian Rockies’ biggest national park, and it’s packed with snow-covered peaks, translucent lakes, roaring waterfalls, inspiring highways, and large populations of wildlife including moose, caribou, wolves, and grizzlies. Step out onto the kilometer-long, 918-foot-high, glass-floored Columbia Icefield Skywalk—if you dare.

Where to stay: Airy Glacier View Lodge opened in summer 2019 and offers tours of the Athabasca Glacier, tall windows with views of icefields and steep mountains, gourmet dinners, and live musical performances every evening.

Abraham Lake

When considering beautiful places to visit in Canada, don’t overlook Abraham Lake, on the Kootenay Plains’ North Saskatchewan River. Peer into its crystalline surface to see eerie methane bubble formations trapped in frozen bright blue water. These underwater oval towers of gas turn the manmade reservoir into a bucket-list destination for any Instagrammer worth his or her salt.

Where to stay: It may be about 80 miles from Abraham Lake, but the epic Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is worth the drive. This gilded resort showcases one of the prettiest places in Canada by way of lovely accommodations right on Lake Louise. Guests get to borrow bikes and canoes for a discounted rate.

British Columbia

Victoria

Victoria is British Columbia’s fairy tale-like capital—easily one of the most beautiful cities in Canada—and Butchart Gardens is the jewel in its flowery crown. Besides touring these enchanting gardens, things to do in Victoria include visiting the expansive Royal BC Museum, strolling salty Fisherman’s Wharf, and exploring idyllic Beacon Hill Park.

Where to stay: Victoria’s stately Fairmont Empress is famous for many things, including its classic afternoon tea chief. Service and accommodations are as regal as you’d expect.

Vancouver Seawall

The 17-mile Vancouver Seawall allows for one of the most exhilarating bike rides you’ll ever take. Ride (or walk) the world’s longest uninterrupted waterfront path for wide, glittering views of the Pacific and plenty of entry points into dynamic Stanley Park. Stop to enjoy the beaches and other fun surprises along the way. While in Vancouver, you may as well visit a couple more of the prettiest places in Canada: the immersive Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and 4,100-foot-high Grouse Mountain.

Where to stay: At the impressive Fairmont Waterfront, service is so bespoke that even your shampoo bottle is personalized with your name on it.

Whistler

If you’re aiming to see the most beautiful places in Canada, you could do far worse than Whistler in winter. It’s got sheer white mountain peaks, world-class skiing and snowboarding, an inviting apres-ski village, zip-lines through snow-covered trees, and fantastic places to eat and sleep.

Where to stay: For magical views, book Nita Lake Lodge, which has luxurious guest rooms, a spa, three restaurants, and a shuttle that takes you to the base of Whistler Mountain.

Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park, Canada

Amid the massive Canadian Rockies is Canada’s own Glacier National Park and its jaw-dropping beauty. The namesake geographical features take the form of icefields, waterfalls, and brightly hued lakes, making for some of the most resplendent natural scenery on Earth.

Where to stay: In the park, you can camp, use an RV, or book a hut or cabin. There are no hotels in Canada’s Glacier National Park, although the town of Revelstoke is nearby, and its Poppi’s Guesthouse hostel gets high marks for coziness, friendliness, and affordability.

Great Bear Rainforest

Into wildlife adventures? The Great Bear Rainforest is one of the best places in Canada to see grizzly bears catching salmon in wild rivers, whales breaching, eagles soaring, and wolves roaming. In Klemtu on the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast, you’ll find mossy forests, untamed fjords, and natural hot springs. As the name implies, ursines frolic everywhere, including the rare white “spirit bear.”

Where to stay: The indigenous-owned Spirit Bear Lodge offers exclusive access to wildlife-viewing areas and cultural sites within the Kitasoo Xai’xais territory. Accommodations are homey and dinners are communal.

Okanagan Valley

It seems like no list of beautiful places would be complete without a wine country. Okanagan Valley lies to the east of Vancouver is home to over 100 wineries, and accounts for more than 80% of the wine produced in British Columbia. Gorgeous lakes, vibrant green landscapes, and warm temperatures make for ideal scenery and climate for grape growing. Mission Hill Family Estate Winery, Covert Farms Family Estate and Silver Sage Estate Winery

Where to Stay: The Spirit Lodge at Silverstar will be your haven when visiting the Okanagan Valley. You’ll get a complimentary breakfast, access to a fire pit, and a spa tub for the ultimate relaxation. Stay cozy with heated floors,

Yoho National Park

The Kootenay Rockies’ Yoho National Park is named for the Cree word meaning “awe,” and it’s easy to see why—its imagery seems out of a movie. You’ll see intense blues and greens, dramatic peaks, the immense Takakkaw Falls, and gem-colored Emerald Lake, making this park one of the most beautiful places in Canada. Hiking trails and scenic drives let you take in the full force of this stunning wilderness. Don’t miss Yoho’s Burgess Shale, a paleontological jackpot containing 500-million-year-old fossils of more than 120 types of marine animals.

Where to stay: The historic, cabin-style Emerald Lake Lodge has balconies and wood-burning fireplaces right on the shores of the famous lake, amid towering mountains.  With just three rooms, this rustic lodge provides you with the luxuries of a major hotel with the intimacy of a bed and breakfast.

Manitoba

Cape Churchill

Cape Churchill, Manitoba, is the polar bear capital of the world. If your idea of impressive scenery involves endless stretches of ice and dozens of polar bears striding across it, head up to the Arctic to experience one of the most beautiful places in Canada. In October and November, Hudson Bay freezes over and thousands of polar bears migrate to its ice, although climate change is already taking effect. Local tour guides in tundra rovers get you up close to see the endangered white creatures.

Where to stay: At Churchill’s Lazy Bear Lodge, accommodations are simple but comfortable. It’s a rustic log cabin with a huge stone fireplace and a location that’s walking distance from town. The lodge’s beluga whale tour is highly recommended.

New Brunswick

Fundy National Park

Fundy National Park, on the Bay of Fundy, has the world’s highest and lowest tides. This means that you can walk out onto the ocean floor during low tide, then kayak alongside landforms like the must-see Hopewell Rocks when the Atlantic refloods the bay. Elsewhere in the park, hike through the Acadian Forest to see dozens of lovely waterfalls, explore sea caves, attend festivals and outdoor concerts, or drive Fundy Trail Parkway to see some of the prettiest places in Canada.

Where to stay: Fundy National Park has three hip campgrounds, as well as Fundy Highlands Motel, which offers simple, comfortable, dog-friendly chalets right on the bay.

Newfoundland and Labrador

Gros Morne National Park

Gros Morne National Park in Canada

The iconic image of Gros Morne National Park is Western Brook Pond, whose name makes it sound small. It’s actually a massive freshwater fjord around which dramatic cliffs plunge into a glacier-formed gorge. Gros Morne National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is also home to the Tablelands, a geological rarity where earthquakes have forced the earth’s mantle up for all to see. There’s also Green Point—sheer cliffs full of ancient sea fossils—as well as waterfalls, dwarf forests, moose and caribou, and Gros Morne Mountain, which is among the planet’s oldest peaks.

Where to stay: Neddies Harbour Inn, a boutique property in the national park, provides unbeatable views over the Bonne Bay fjord, as well as a peaceful atmosphere and an excellent restaurant.

Nova Scotia

Cabot Trail

Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia, Canada

Nova Scotia’s 185-mile Cabot Trail loops around Cape Breton Island, making for one of North America’s most memorable drives. In addition to providing gorgeous coastal views, the highway takes you to small fishing villages, the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site, golf courses, museums, galleries, and artisan boutiques. It also passes through Cape Breton Highlands National Park, where moose, bears, and eagles roam, and where autumn’s vivid colors secure Cabot Trail’s spot among the prettiest places in Canada.

Where to stay: Keltic Lodge is a historic, well-appointed resort right on the Atlantic in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Amenities include in-room fireplaces, verandahs, a golf course, a heated swimming pool, and a satisfying restaurant.

Ontario

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Niagara Falls isn’t just one of the most beautiful places in Canada—it’s one of the most beautiful places in the whole world. And though Americans tend to think of it as a U.S. attraction (of course), the Canadian view of the famous falls is actually even better. Come in summer to be treated to nightly fireworks over the mist.

Where to stay: The city around Niagara Falls is pretty touristy, so it’s worth the effort to drive about 13 miles north to a charming little town called Niagara-on-the-Lake and its elegant Charles Hotel, where guest rooms have fireplaces, private verandahs gaze over Lake Ontario, gardens bloom with flowers, and service is superlative.

CN Tower

Those in search of Canadian urban wonders can look no further than the CN Tower, the defining feature of Toronto‘s skyline, punctuating postcards all over Ontario. The tower’s observation deck has glass floors, its 360 Restaurant rotates, and its heart-pounding EdgeWalk lets you strap in and hang off a five-foot-wide ledge more than 1,000 feet high. This iconic structure is prettiest when it illuminates after dark.

Where to stay: The Shangri-La Hotel, set in a 66-floor glass-encased skyscraper, epitomizes modern luxury with its artistic decor, high-tech amenities, and hammam-inspired spa. And it’s within easy distance of the Canadian Opera Company and the National Ballet of Canada.

Prince Edward County

Prince Edward County, a detached peninsula on Lake Ontario’s north shore, is ideal for both beach lovers and oenophiles. The region’s limestone bedrock makes for great wine grapes, which is why there are more than 40 vineyards here. There are also expansive fields of sunflowers and lavender, more than a dozen breweries, hundreds of farms, and plenty of talented chefs who put all this local bounty to good use. PEC was relatively unknown until recently, when it gained something of a buzz among urbanites, artists, gourmands, and hipsters.

Where to stay: The colorful Drake Motor Inn opened in spring 2019, full of whimsy and modernized nostalgia. Its 12 rooms are all retro-chic, and the entire property pays playful tribute to the bygone days of road travel.

Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island National Park

Prince Edward Island National Park is easily one of the most beautiful places in Canada, especially its windswept Greenwich section. Visitors can explore red sand beaches, wavy dunes, mystical forests, boardwalk trails, and the idyllic places that formed the setting for L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables. While the hurricane in 2022 damaged the iconic dunes, Canada and PEI have done a lot of work to preserve and rebuild what was lost, and it is still a sight to behold.
Where to stay: Dalvay by the Sea, a national historic site on the north shore, was built in 1895 in Queen Anne Revival style. Its 25 rooms—each one unique—remain furnished in antiques from that ornate era.

Victoria-by-the-Sea

Victoria-by-the-Sea is a storybook village full of small-town seaside charm, including a photogenic lighthouse, red sand beaches, and artisan shops and galleries. Historically known for its fishermen, it’s now more populated by artists and creatives who leave an inspired mark on their lovely municipality.

Where to stay: The historic Orient Hotel is an inviting bed and breakfast that provides wonderful views of the water from almost every guest room.

Quebec

Old Montreal

Old Montreal, Canada

Montreal is one of the most beautiful cities in Canada—and one of the most interesting, too, what with its amalgam of European and North American culture and engaging attractions like Olympic Park’s Biodome and Botanical Garden. The prettiest part of the city, however, is Old Montreal, founded as a French colony in 1642, with intricate architecture to match. If you ever feel like going to Europe without crossing the Atlantic, visit Old Montreal’s resplendent Notre-Dame Basilica, browse its stately Bonsecours Market, gawk at its colonial-era mansions, and watch the St. Lawrence River’s dynamic Old Port at work.

Where to stay: The newish Four Seasons Montreal puts forth its brand’s usual level of service and comfort—which is to say, it’s an excellent place to stay. Adding to the appeal is its central location in the Golden Square Mile, its fine cuisine, and its proximity to high-end shopping at Holt Renfrew Ogilvy.

Quebec City

Ask Canadians which is the most beautiful city in Canada, and most will respond the same way: Quebec City. It’s hard to overstate how magical this French-speaking town is—its fairy-tale charm pervades every cobblestone street. Quebec City, the only fortified city north of Mexico, also features colonial-era architecture, the bustling St. Lawrence River, and a rich, palpable history. It boasts four distinct seasons, each more beautiful than the next. Just outside of town, Montmorency Falls is almost 100 feet taller than any of Niagara’s three falls, making for a truly underrated natural wonder.

Where to stay: The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is the world’s most photographed hotel for good reason: Its legendary castle-on-a-hill look makes it an icon of Old Quebec. The elegance continues inside, in terms of both decor and hospitality par excellence.

Mont-Tremblant

Person skiing down snowy slope in Mont-Tremblant, Canada

A popular ski destination, Mont-Tremblant has a European flair that, outside of Europe, you can only find in Quebec. Eighty miles northwest of Montreal, Mont-Tremblant is one of the top ski destinations in North America. There is something for everyone at Mont-Tremblant, you can shop, ski, ride a gondola, ice skate- all while taking in the glorious scenery around you. You must be sure to visit le P’tit Caribou, which is considered one of the best apres ski spots in the world.

Where to Stay: Le Grand Lodge is a Scandinavian-style log hotel that has everything you need for the perfect vacation to enjoy the mountains: a restaurant, bar and spa for when you want to wind down, a free shuttle to the ski village, ski rentals, and more. Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate daily from 4-5 after a day of skiing.

Saskatchewan

Grasslands National Park

Saskatchewan’s Grasslands National Park is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Canada, but in a bit of an unexpected sense: The grandness here isn’t so much village charm or even distinctive nature attractions. It’s more the vast golden prairies, the open country, the huge skies, and the roaming herds of bison that provide their own type of wild gorgeousness. One great way to take it all in is via a brand-new scenic road called the Badlands Parkway. Perk up your Instagram feed with photos of the park’s iconic red Adirondack chairs, or scour the hoodoo spires for dinosaur fossils.

Where to stay: Sky Story Bed & Breakfast in nearby Val Marie earns high marks for its warm hospitality, delicious breakfasts, and friendly cats.

Northwest Territories

Great Slave Lake

If seeing the northern lights is on your bucket list, plan to visit Yellowknife and Great Slave Lake, in the Northwest Territories. In winter, this remote Arctic region transforms into one of the most beautiful places in Canada, thanks to its position north of the 60th parallel, placing it firmly inside the aurora oval. This, plus a flat landscape far from the ocean, makes Yellowknife one of the world’s best places to see nature’s most spectacular light show. Prepare to see deep, glowing greens and purples dominating the skies over North America’s deepest lake.

Where to stay: The Explorer Hotel is an eco-conscious hotel with stunning views of the aurora, with two restaurants and a polar bear exhibit for your enjoyment in the lobby.

Nunavut

Baffin Island

Baffin Island, above the Arctic Circle, is Canada’s largest island—it’s bigger than Great Britain. But it’s among the prettiest places in Canada because of Auyuittuq National Park, where icy fjords and glaciers dominate the landscape with their intense blues and bright whites. This surreal expanse of tundra is home to wildlife like you’ve never seen: narwhal, ringed seals, snow geese, Arctic foxes, caribou, and, yes, polar bears.

Where to stay: The Frobisher Inn is the largest full-service business hotel in the Eastern Arctic, and is also the perfect family hotel—with two restaurants, a cafe, and a fitness center.

Yukon

Whitehorse Region

The Yukon is full of beautiful places to visit in Canada, and the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad is a thrilling way to take them in. This scenic narrow-gauge railway was built in the late 1800s for the Klondike Gold Rush. Today, it still connects Skagway, Alaska, to Whitehorse, Yukon’s capital city. The memorable ride takes passengers, many of them on shore excursions from Alaska cruises, into wide expanses of rugged scenery, over and through impossible bridges and tunnels, and past wildflower-packed meadows, waterfalls, and glaciers at a speed that allows appreciation for the sheer magnitude of it all.

Where to stay: Northern Lights Resort & Spa, true to its name, is well positioned to see the winter aurora borealis. Book a glass chalet or a log cabin and enjoy this much-loved B&B’s saunas, warm hospitality, and highly personalized service.

While road trips are a popular choice for long weekend getaways, why not consider something more adventurous? Your passport isn’t just for extended vacations—it can be your key to an unforgettable long weekend abroad.

Contrary to popular belief, international travel doesn’t always require extensive planning or time off. With the right destination, you can experience a new culture and break from routine in just a few days.

No matter which corner of the U.S. you call home, there’s an international escape within easy reach. These carefully selected destinations allow you to make the most of your limited time off without spending half your break in transit or returning home exhausted.

So, instead of sitting in traffic, why not venture beyond borders? No matter where you’re based in the U.S., an exciting international escape is within reach.

If You Live in the Northeast: Jamaica

Flight Time: NYC to MBJ: 3 hr 48 min; BOS to MBJ: 4 hr 28 min; PHL to MBJ; 3 hr 50 min

If you live in the northeast, mid-Atlantic, or southeast, the entire Caribbean is at your beck and call. But if we’re talking long weekends, there are few better places than Jamaica. Catch an early morning flight and be on the beach by noon.

There are numerous nonstop routes from the northeast to Montego Bay, making a flight here easy (and affordable). Temperatures in Jamaica average between 77 and 86 degrees year-round, so you’ll find sunshine no matter what time of year you visit.

If You Live on the West Coast: Vancouver

Flight Time: LAX to YVR: 2 hr 55 min; SEA to YVR: 1 hr 5 min; LAS to YVR: 2 hr 45 min

Whether you want an active hiking trip, a relaxing beach vacation, or a lively city break, Vancouver has it all—and it’s a short direct flight from many U.S. West Coast cities. If you’re staying in downtown Vancouver, you don’t have to worry about renting a car as the city is very walkable, and there are plenty of options for public transportation or biking.

As a bonus, your US Dollar will go farther in Canada, as the Canadian Dollar is currently equal to 0.73 US Dollars.

If You Live in the South or Southwest: Costa Rica

Flight Time: IAH to SJO: 3 hr 40 min; ATL to SJO: 4 hr; MIA to SJO: 3 hr 5 min

Flamingo Beach, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

In the mood for adventure? Book a flight to Costa Rica. While Costa Rica has beautiful beaches, this eco-paradise adds up to more than its over 800 miles of coastline. Take Arenal/La Fortuna, for example. Home to the active Arenal Volcano, the “adventure capital of Costa Rica” is a gateway to whitewater rafting, zip-lining, waterfall rappelling (you read that correctly), nature hiking, horseback riding, and so much more.

When you’ve worn yourself out with high-adrenaline fun, be sure to set aside some time (or the entire weekend) to soak in the area’s volcano-fed mineral hot springs.

If You Live in the Midwest: Montreal

Flight Time: ORD to YMQ: 2 hr 20 min; MSP to YMQ: 2h, 30m

With cobblestone streets, French as the official language, and historic architecture, a trip to Montreal feels like a European vacation—minus the jet lag. While a long weekend offers a tantalizing taste of this charming city, consider kickstarting your visit with a walking tour to maximize your time and gain the best overview. Choose a tour that aligns with your interests, whether craft beer, food, or history.
Sometimes called “The City of Festivals,” Montreal’s vibrant cultural scene ensures there’s always something exciting happening. Before finalizing your itinerary, be sure to consult the city’s calendar of festivals and events—you might just stumble upon a celebration that turns your trip into an unforgettable adventure.

Circa Resort & Casino, Nevada

Circa Las Vegas - Single King

Sin City isn’t exactly a family-friendly place, but there are a surprising lack of adults-only hotels in Las Vegas. Located off-strip right next to The Freemont Street Experience, Circa has gained a reputation as the best place to go for sports betting and pool parties. The resort boasts the largest sports betting experience in the world, with a three-story sportsbook that’s busy all day and night.

Upstairs, you’ll find Stadium Swim, six pools spread out over three levels, all facing a 40-foot-tall high-definition screen so you can keep an eye on all of your games.

Age Restrictions: Circa does not allow anyone under 21 through its doors, carding people at every entrance.

Indoor waterparks have been all the rage lately, and I recently had the opportunity to visit my first on a weekend in May. I was pleasantly surprised at how amazing it was. Staying at the same location as the waterpark was insanely convenient. My kids not only loved the waterpark, but they were delighted with their fun bunk room (and my son was stoked to sleep on a top bunk for the first time). From the comfort of our room, the delicious meals, to the fun-filled memories we made at the waterpark, the Kartrite made for the perfect family getaway.

Location: Monticello, New York

The Kartrite Resort and Indoor Water Park is located in the Catskills of New York, in Monticello. Our drive there made it seem like it was in the middle of nowhere, but our hosts informed us that civilization was only five minutes away. It’s about ninety minutes from New York City, just over two and a half hours from Philadelphia, and three and a half hours from Boston.

Property: The Kartrite Resort & Indoor Waterpark

The Kartrite Indoor Waterpark, slides and river

The Kartrite is a spacious resort with a massive water park included in your stay. Outside the waterpark, there is also a giant arcade with traditional arcade games, a ropes course, VR experiences, and more.

Amenities include:

  • Free WiFi
  • Coffee Makers in every room
  • Flat Screen Smart TV’s
  • Free on-site, off-street parking
  • Four waterpark passes with every booking

Rooms: Everything You Need for A Comfortable Stay

The Kartrite, Accomodation
Expedia

The Kartrite has 324 of various types to suit your family’s needs. From their basic junior suite to a three-bedroom suite, whatever size party you have, they have you covered. The three-bedroom suite accommodates up to twelve guests- perfect for two families heading to the park together.

The Kartrite, Accomodation Family King Bunk Suite
Expedia

We stayed in a Family King Bunk Suite with a bunk room separate from the rest of the suite, perfect for our two kids. The main space was spacious, with a king-sized bed, sleeper couch, desk/table and coffee table. We had a good-sized balcony overlooking the courtyard, facing the water park. Every room has a sleeper sofa for guests, a coffee maker, a mini fridge, a microwave, an HD television, and four waterpark passes for each day of your stay. Three-bedroom suites have a separate kitchenette area with a large dining table.

The Waterpark: Fun for The Whole Family

The 80,000-square-foot waterpark is massive and has rides and attractions that will satisfy everyone. My two-and-a-half-year-old absolutely loved Puddle Ducks, an area tucked away in a back corner of the water park just for toddlers. The water is ankle-deep, the slides are toddler-sized, and several features, such as spraying water scattered about the wading pool, are perfect for toddlers but not yet big enough for the other attractions. Parents are not allowed to use the slides, which makes it difficult for some kids, but most were able to get over any separation anxiety and have fun. I can’t tell you how many times my daughter went up the stairs and down the slide, over and over. The best part was it made bedtime in an unfamiliar place much easier! My five-year-old son was tall enough for all but one ride (the Nor’Easter) and had absolutely no qualms about going down the slides he was big enough for. I don’t know how many times he made the trek up the stairs to go down the slides (with mom or dad the lucky ones schlepping the mats or tubes up). He even loved the Jiggerty-Jaggerty, the kid-friendly area with a dump bucket, two traditional water slides (that parents can go down), and water spraying everywhere. My husband and I had just as much fun as the kids.

At one point, I suggested we try the lazy river, which was more like the “crazy” river- kids off of tubes, going against the flow, people trying to find a tube, absolute chaos, but my five-year-old loved it, and, admittedly, was one of the kids having fun off of a tube. We were lucky to get a private Flowrider session before the park opened, a stationary wave machine simulating surfing and bodyboarding. This is generally out of my comfort zone, but when I saw my five-year-old mastering it, I decided to give it a whirl, and it was a lot of fun! Only one person in the group (my husband) attempted to surf, and it was a challenge.

We had a cabana on the second floor, overlooking the waterpark, and I recommend reserving one for your stay- it’s the perfect spot to decompress, get a bite to eat, change diapers, and change clothes. You can even order food and drinks from a server that comes to the cabana. Ground-level cabanas are $179/day, Upper mezzanine cabanas are $229/day, and the Birthday lower Cabana is $329/day. All include a mini-fridge with sodas and chips, as well as towels.

Dining at the Kartrite

The Kartrite Resort Bar
The Kartrite Resort

The Kartrite boasts seven unique dining options, from a sweet shop complete with cupcakes and candy to a sports bar—you can probably find it no matter what you are looking for. On the main floor, you’ll find Bixby’s, which serves a pub-like menu and has a separate bar area for delicious drinks. The Highline is also on the main floor and will be your go-to place for coffee, snacks, and a quick breakfast or lunch. It’s only open until 2, so be sure to get your fix in before it closes! Downstairs, you’ll find the sports bar, Harvey’s Wallbanger, where kids can run around and play as grown-ups enjoy a beverage watching their favorite sports team on tv.  Also downstairs is Eat. Eat. Eat., the ultimate breakfast stop with an all-you-can-eat buffet, and Pop’s Sweet, which has candy, ice cream, and yummy baked goods to satisfy your sweet tooth. The waterpark boasts the Surfside Grille and Bar Mez, which serve snacks, pizzas, and salads to enjoy between waterslides.

All-inclusive resorts are designed so that you can leave your worries behind. Your only job is to relax and not have to worry about paying for every drink or activity. But don’t get lulled into a false sense of security—there are five big mistakes that are easy to make at an all-inclusive that could ruin your trip.

Assuming Everything Is Included

All-inclusive includes everything, right? Maybe not. At some resorts, things like top-shelf alcohol, premium restaurants, and minibar drinks cost extra on top of the package rate. If you just assume that everything is all-inclusive and take advantage of all amenities, you could be surprised with a very high bill when you check out.

Goffkein | Adobe Stock

Overindulging

When there is an unlimited buffet of tempting food and drinks laid out 24/7, you might feel the need to try everything to get your money’s worth… which can leave you feeling sick and lethargic after the first day.

Instead of piling your plate with everything that looks good at each meal and downing five different types of brightly colored cocktails (and immediately regretting it when the heartburn and hangovers hit), try to look at your stay at an all-inclusive resort as a marathon, not a sprint.

You’ll have plenty of chances to try everything over the course of your stay, so save some treats to try later. You’ll feel better and enjoy your vacation more if you don’t overindulge on food and alcohol.

Never Leaving the Resort

When you’ve paid in advance for every drink, meal, and activity, leaving an all-inclusive resort can feel like a losing proposition. But if you never step foot outside of your hotel, will you really feel like you’ve visited the destination? Or will you feel as if your resort could have been located anywhere in the world?

Try to tear yourself away from your hotel and explore the surrounding area so you can get an idea of what the local culture is really like.

Not Researching the Tipping Policy

Since everything is included, you might not bring any cash to your all-inclusive vacation—which could put you in an awkward situation if tips aren’t part of the package. Check with your hotel before traveling so that you don’t make an etiquette faux pas and accidentally stiff someone out of a much-earned gratuity.

The flip side of this is that at some resorts, such as Sandals, tipping is included in the hotel rate and most staff members are forbidden to accept gratuities—so trying to push cash on a helpful waiter could actually put them in a very uncomfortable situation.

Making an Enemy

All-inclusive resorts are designed so guests never have to leave the property—so you’re more likely to see the same people over and over again throughout your stay than at a standard hotel. Which could make things really uncomfortable if there’s someone you don’t want to run into, like the person you cut in line on your first day, or the guest who overheard you make a snide remark about their outfit at the pool.

Try to be on your best behavior and avoid making enemies at an all-inclusive resort, since there’s a high chance you’ll see them repeatedly throughout your trip.

Cranmore Mountain Resort is one of the oldest ski resorts in New England, and it just got a brand-new facelift that adds modern conveniences without taking away the mountain’s quintessential charm. Located in North Conway, a lively alpine town in the heart of the picturesque Mount Washington Valley, Cranmore is an easy (under three hours) drive from Boston and a year-round vacation destination.

Cranmore opened a new 30,000-square-foot lodge just in time for the 2023/2024 ski season, featuring Skimobile Station food court, Koessler’s slope-side bar, and a ski accessories shop. The lodge is packed with skier-friendly amenities like free water bottle filling stations and bathrooms on the ground floor (so you don’t have to trudge down a flight of stairs in ski boots like at many other resorts.)

Cranmore also made some outdoor improvements, adding five new trails to the mountain and debuting a new terrain park with boxes, rails, and snow features.

For the perfect winter weekend at Cranmore Mountain, follow our guide and learn where to eat, what to do, and where to stay.

Cranmore Mountain Resort

Cranmore Mountain

I planned my visit to Cranmore Mountain for the last weekend in February, not realizing that it was the end of a vacation week for many area schools. I feared the resort would be crowded with long lift lines. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case—this ski resort is so well-laid out, with 60 trails spread across more than 170 acres. Thanks to seven lifts (including one high-speed quad), I never waited more than 10 minutes for a chair, and on Sunday, I didn’t have to wait at all after lunch. Nothing is better than skiing straight off a trail and back into the chairlift without stopping!

There is a great mix of green, blue, and black diamond trails at Cranmore, making Cranmore a good destination for all skiers of all abilities. I loved that there’s a long green trail that winds from the summit down to the lodge, so a group with mixed abilities can ride the chairlift up and everyone can ski down comfortably, no matter their skill level.

During my weekend trip, we were blessed with two warm bluebird days. Cranmore is one of the more temperate mountains in the area, thanks to its 2,000-foot elevation, which is a huge plus for those used to the icy and frigid conditions other New England ski areas are famous for. That doesn’t mean Cranmore doesn’t get snow—the mountain averages 80 inches of fresh powder annually.

Over the last few years, Cranmore has invested over $1 million into mountain snowmaking improvements, adding over 500 energy-efficient snow guns to make snow more quickly.

Cranmore Mountain Lessons

Whether you’re hoping to advance your skiing to the next level or try snowboarding for the first time, I highly recommend taking advantage of the great learning programs available at Cranmore.

Group lessons are available daily for kids and adults learning how to ski. Cranmore has a large learning area, including a unique trail with specifically shaped snow features designed to naturally help first-timers learn to control their speed and body position.

As an intermediate skier who wants to improve, I signed up for a one-on-one private lesson. My knowledgeable instructor, Becca, gave me personalized tips on form to help me advance and feel more comfortable on the mountain. After my lesson, I felt much more confident and could tackle trails I might not have attempted previously.

Cranmore Ski Resort Lift Tickets

Cranmore Tickets and new Lodge
Cranmore Mountain Resort

Cranmore is one of the more affordable mountains in the area for a day of skiing. Lift tickets cost $119 for an adult day pass if you buy them the same day you’re skiing, but you can save up to $20 if you buy them online in advance.

A two-day adult pass costs $209, and if you don’t want to ski an entire day, there are options for night skiing ($69) and half days ($99).

What to Do at Cranmore Mountain

There’s plenty to do at Cranmore Mountain for non-skiers as well. The tubing park is a big draw for families in the winter. A magic carpet whisks sledders up to the top so they can repeatedly slide down one of 10 lanes without getting tired.

For more thrills, hit the Mountain Adventure Park, home to three adrenaline-pumping rides: A giant swing, a 700-foot zip line, and a mountain coaster.

Tickets for the Mountain Adventure Park can be booked online in advance and start at $29 per ride. Tubing tickets start at $45 per person for two hours.

Where to Eat at Cranmore Mountain

Whether you’re looking for a quick snack to grab and eat on the chairlift or a leisurely sit-down lunch, there are plenty of dining options at Cranmore Mountain. My favorites included:

Meister Hut

For the best views in town, ski off the chairlift and into Meister Hut. This fast-casual lodge-style eatery has a beautiful back deck with stunning views of Mount Washington. In the afternoon, the sun hits the deck and keeps it warm enough to sit outside, making it a perfect place for a lunch stop.

Zip’s Pub

A full-service bar and restaurant in Cranmore’s Schneider Square area, Zip’s Pub offers hearty comfort food.

Skimobile Station

This grab-and-go food court is a quick stop for packaged snacks, coffee, or fast food options.

Koessler’s Bar

Koessler’s Bar is the place for apres-ski, with live music on Saturdays. The massive 7,000-foot square patio is a fun place to grab a drink after a day on the slope.

Where to Stay Near Cranmore Mountain

Front Exterior of the Eastern Mountain Slope Inn Resort
Expedia

Cranmore Mountain is a less than five-minute drive from downtown North Conway, where there is a huge variety of accommodations to choose from. Travelers hoping to keep their ski trip affordable should book a room at the Village Place at the Eastern Slope Inn, which offers motel-style accommodations starting at around $125 per night during the winter season.

I stayed in a queen room, which was equipped with two queen beds, a microwave, and a minifridge. These conveniences were great for sticking to a budget, as it meant I could pack food and bring it to the mountain in lieu of buying lunch. The room itself was extremely clean and overall comfortable.

Guests of the Village Place will have access to all the amenities of the Eastern Slope Inn, a larger hotel located a short drive down the street, including a heated indoor pool and hot tub.

Village Place is one of the few dog-friendly hotels in the Conway area, a plus for those traveling with a canine companion.

Families visit Orlando for its theme parks, water parks, and endless magical attractions. While these make for a fantastic trip, there are plenty of other fun things to do in Orlando besides visiting Disney.

Go wandering through the lush gardens of Harry P. Leu Gardens or picnic by the waters of Lake Eola—this article is your one-stop guide to experiencing the best of Orlando.

Explore Walt Disney World’s Theme Parks

When people hear Orlando, they think of immersive theme parks—notably Walt Disney World, and for good reason. Disney World offers all you need for a magical vacation; theme parks, dozens of hotels, dining establishments, golf courses, water parks, shopping centers, and more. There are four theme parks here, the Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT. You’ll find iconic sights and experiences, like Cinderella Castle and Pandora—The World of Avatar.

There’s a lot to do at Walt Disney World, so consider visiting this expansive property over several days. If you’re traveling with kids in the summer, avoid spending all day in the park, or you’ll end up dealing with hot and cranky children. Instead, do some morning rides and return in the evenings to catch Magic Kingdom’s fireworks and more Disney fun.

Nearby Recommended Hotel:  Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is a nature-inspired resort in Walt Disney World. There are kid-friendly activities for your little ones and a free shuttle service to Disney’s theme parks.

Visit the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The main draw of Universal Orlando’s theme parks is the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. This attraction offers an immersive and fun experience where you can escape from Gringotts or get chosen by a wand at Ollivanders wand shop. To see the complete recreation of Harry Potter’s world, board the Hogwarts Express to travel between Hogsmeade at Universal’s Islands of Adventure and Diagon Alley in Universal Studios, Florida.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has five roller coaster rides, so you can pick and choose or try them all. Thrillseekers will love Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Meanwhile, Flight of the Hippogriff is perfect for kids. Crowds are inescapable here, but to reduce your wait times, visit on weekdays or pay an extra fee for an express pass that lets you skip lines.

Nearby Recommended Hotel: Universal’s Loews Portofino Bay Hotel is part of the Universal Orlando Resort. A stay here offers exclusive theme park privileges like unlimited ride access, which lets you skip regular lines, and free water taxi shuttles between Universal’s parks.

Learn About Space Travel at the Kennedy Space Center

Kennedy Space Center is integral to Central Florida’s culture and a must-visit for space enthusiasts and families. This iconic attraction also serves as NASA’s primary launch facility for spaceflight. KSC’s Visitor Complex showcases interactive exhibits, simulators, and authentic pieces of spacecraft.

Although this attraction is about an hour away from Orlando, it’s worth the drive down as you can explore rocket gardens, watch space-themed IMAX movies, and even meet a real astronaut. It’s also a great way to escape crowded theme parks while offering fun for kids and adults.

Real Florida Adventures’ Kennedy Space Center tour offers round-trip transportation from Orlando if you won’t be driving.

Nearby Recommended Hotel: Courtyard by Marriott Titusville Kennedy Space Center’s rooftop bar is perfect for watching NASA’s rocket launches. The hotel features large modern rooms with river views and celestial decor.

Snorkel with Stingrays at Discovery Cove

Seaworld’s Discovery Cove offers a unique experience unlike any other Orlando amusement park. It’s a family-friendly all-inclusive day resort where you can float in the water, snorkel with fish and rays, and feed exotic birds. Discovery Cove limits guest admissions per day, so it’s easier to get up close and personal with animals.

When you’re not swimming, lounge alongside one of the park’s pristine beaches or check out the birds in the Explorer’s Aviary. Add-on packages offer extra-special experiences like swimming with dolphins. The lush landscaping and freshwater pools make Discovery Cove a great place to relax and unwind.

Nearby Recommended Hotel: Hilton Grand Vacations Club SeaWorld Orlando is an 8-minute walk from Discovery Cove and offers free shuttle service to all Seaworld attractions. This resort has multiple pools, a kids’ splash pad, and jogging trails to make the most of the beautiful scenery.

Entertain Your Kids at Orlando Science Center

Spending a rainy day in Orlando? A trip to the Orlando Science Center is a great way to keep your kids dry and entertained. One of the city’s most popular family attractions, this center houses four floors of hands-on exhibits designed to educate and inspire young minds.

You’ll find giant skeletons of dinosaurs and several interactive zones for kids. There’s also a nature area where your little ones can meet reptiles, critters, and Lucky the Turtle. Science is fun, but it can work up an appetite. The onsite 4Roots cafe serves healthy, affordable meals made with locally-grown produce.

Nearby Recommended Hotel: Comfort Suites Downtown is in the hip North Orange area of Orlando, close to Orlando Science Center, antique stores, and many dining options. Suites have a laid-back design, and guests will enjoy complimentary breakfast and free parking.

Stroll the Beautiful Lake Eola Park

Lake Eola Park

A picturesque slice of nature, Lake Eola Park is a peaceful escape from an otherwise buzzing city. Stroll the park’s paths or enjoy a relaxing picnic by the water’s edge. This green space offers what you need to recharge after a busy day. Located downtown, Lake Eola provides stunning views of Orlando’s skyline.

Can’t decide between a relaxing lakeside getaway or an active mountain vacation? Plan a trip to New Hampshire, home to the White Mountains and the Lakes Region, where you can have both in one weekend.

With hundreds of miles of hiking trails, 93 state park properties, and plenty of lakes and beaches to explore, the Granite State is a paradise for outdoor adventurers.

Follow this guide to plan the perfect New Hampshire summer weekend trip.

Friday

Mount Washington Hotel exterior on left. Mount Washington Hotel room on the right.

Northern New Hampshire is an easy drive from Boston—you can save your vacation time, leave after work on Friday, and arrive in time for dinner.

Check into the Omni Mount Washington Resort, New Hampshire’s most iconic hotel. The sprawling, red-roofed property can be spotted from many viewpoints in the state. This historic resort was built in 1902 and has since undergone many renovations to make it the timelessly elegant property it is today. The most recent renovation expanded the hotel to add 69 modern rooms and suites in the Presidential Wing—book a room in this section to enjoy mountain views from your private outdoor space, oversized soaking tubs, and a brand-new feel.

The Omni’s main dining room was recently updated as well. Reserve a table by the window in this elegant space (there is a dress code) for a special dinner. The dining room’s picture windows offer stunning sunset views over the mountains and surrounding forest while you eat.

Saturday

Center Harbor Inn exterior on left, Center Harbor Inn room on right.

Start your day off right with a buffet breakfast in the Omni’s main dining room, or, for lighter fare, take advantage of the Omni’s complimentary coffee service and pair a cup with a pastry (don’t miss the incredible cinnamon rolls) from the hotel’s Morsels cafe.

New Hampshire is by far the best state in New England for hiking. Experience a classic New Hampshire 4,000-footer by tackling Mount Eisenhower. Part of the White Mountains’ famous Presidential Range, this moderately challenging trek will reward you with 360-degree views at the top. The 3.3-mile (one-way) Edmund’s Path trail is the most direct route to the summit.

By the time you’ve finished the hike, you’ll be ready for a hearty lunch. Refuel at Wicked Fresh Craft Burgers in North Conway. Get the milkshake (made with local milk) and the fries (topped with fresh herbs)—you’ve earned it.

Check into the Center Harbor Inn. Perched above a private sandy beach on Lake Winnipesaukee, this hotel puts you in the heart of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. Opt for a water-view room with a private balcony for a truly luxurious stay.

Head down to the hotel’s outdoor hot tub where you can soak your tired muscles while overlooking the water.

Walk across the street to Poggio’s Craft Kitchen & Taphouse for dinner, where chef Kaylon Sweet serves up an ever-changing menu based on fresh, local ingredients. If the weather’s nice, sit outside in the restaurant’s beautiful new biergaten space.

Sunday

Castle in the Clouds

Stroll over to Gusto’s Italian Cafe for a leisurely Sunday morning breakfast. Grab a sandwich and coffee—and don’t forget to add in one of the homemade pastries involving Nutella—and bring your feast back for a picnic on Center Harbor Inn’s private beach.

After carboloading and caffeinating, rent a kayak from the hotel and paddle around Lake Winnipesaukee before checking out.

Take a short drive to Castle in the Clouds in Moultonborough, New Hampshire. Built as a private estate in 1913, this elaborate property once spanned an incredible 6,300 acres. Now, the mansion and grounds occupy 135 acres of prime real estate overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee.

Tour the carefully-preserved 16-room Lucknow estate for a fascinating example of how the wealthy lived in the early 20th century before having lunch in the on-site restaurants (housed in the converted stables).

Cap off your trip with a walk through Castle in the Cloud’s many scenic walking trails—the short (0.8 mile) Brook Walk trail takes you past seven beautiful waterfalls.

Tahiti’s first overwater bungalows were built back in the 1960s as stilted homes. Who would’ve thought that half a century later, these water huts would be synonymous with luxury. Today, French Polynesia is home to nearly 900 overwater villas scattered across 22 hotels on seven of the 118 islands. Some of the most jaw-droppingly gorgeous suites are tucked away under thatched roofs styled after traditional Tahitian fishing huts, and are outfitted with swanky, state-of-the-art technology and super-sleek furnishings that bring a five-star hotel element to remote stretches of French Polynesia. Here are six of the most beautiful overwater bungalows worth booking when you’re ready to finally take that bucket list trip to Tahiti.

The St. Regis Bora Bora Resort

Just because you’re on an island doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in the same luxuries you would find at hotels back on the mainland. Take The St. Regis Bora Bora, for instance, where you’re catered to around the clock by the brand’s signature butler service, as well as by pool attendants, who will happily whisk smoothies (or something stronger) straight to your chaise. Celeb chef Jean-Georges is behind the menu at Asian-fusion eatery The Lagoon, where you can watch a show of sharks swimming beneath the glass-paneled restaurant floor. The resort stretches across three “motus,” or islands, with jagged Mount Otemanu rising as a beacon in the distance, and the sparkling turquoise water is on full display from the transparent floors of the overwater villas—the largest in the South Pacific.

Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

Most of the hundred-plus bungalows at Four Seasons Bora Bora stand proudly on stilts over the lagoon (and the few that don’t make up for it in size). Modeled after a traditional Polynesian village, the design—dreamt up by a local architect, with the help of Paris- and San Francisco-based design firms—plays on the natural beauty of the lagoon with an indoor-outdoor concept. Think mother of pearl-accented light fixtures (a nod to Tahiti’s infamous black pearls), tattoo- patterned pillows, and sleek teak furnishings. Named No. 1 in French Polynesia in TripAdvisor’s 2019 Travelers’ Choice Awards, the Four Seasons Bora Bora is the quintessential vision of Tahiti: plunge pools and private ladders leading straight from water bungalows down to the tropical fish-filled lagoon—plus lavish spa treatments like a tailored-for-you massage experience.

InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa

InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa

When deciding between InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa’s 84 overwater villas, the main choice you’ll have to make is the view: lagoon, beach or mountains? Traditional architectural touches (bamboo, carved mother of pearl, weavings) remind you you’re in French Polynesia, but the state-of-the-art in-room technology feels as cosmopolitan as New York. A glass-bottomed coffee table doubles as a porthole to the al fresco aquarium below, and sundecks feature outdoor freshwater showers perfect for cooling off in between sunbathing and dips in the lagoon. You can also soak up the views while soaking in your private plunge pool. Another reason to book a stay here: the thalassotherapy center, the first seawater therapy spa in the region that weaves nutrients extracted from the depths of the South Pacific into its ancient Polynesian rituals (performed in glass-bottom treatment rooms, of course). The InterContinental is also home to four new satellite suites with the largest private plunge pools in French Polynesia courtesy of Tahiti’s most exclusive resort—The Brando.

Conrad Bora Bora Nui

Various views of overwater bungalows at Conrad Bora Bora Nui
Conrad Bora Bora Nui

The majority of the high-end resorts in Bora Bora sit on the opposite side of the lagoon, so you won’t have to worry about sharing space—or views. Set on its own private atoll, across from Bora Bora on the southwest end of Motu To’opua, the Conrad Bora Bora Nui offers the largest stretch of sand in the area (spanning nearly half a mile), plus some of Tahiti’s best coral reefs—so snorkeling here is top-notch. Lounge on the pool deck of your overwater private bungalow on a hammock suspended over the sea—or in the sauna if you’ve opted for the presidential villa. Sporting the only two-story, overwater villas in French Polynesia, rooms here feature butler service, three terraces, an infinity pool overlooking the horizon, and a bar area, so you don’t have to go too far to find refreshments for sunset.

Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts

View from the deck of an overwater bungalow at Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts (left) and view of the overwater bungalows at Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts (right)
Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts

French Polynesia is home to six archipelagos, but one of the lesser known (and less crowded) is Tuamotu, 220 miles north of Tahiti. White- and pink-sand islands dot the 177-square-mile lagoon surrounding the Tikehau atoll (population 500), an hour’s flight from Tahiti’s capital. You won’t find modern luxuries at Le Tikehau by Pearl Resorts (sorry, no air-conditioning). But the cool, marine breeze and views of the crystal-clear lagoons make up for it. With only 24 overwater suites and bungalows (which span over 1,000 square feet), you’ll practically have the lagoon all to yourself. If you really want privacy, go for the premium bungalows at the far end of the pontoon, which feature chaise lounges, glass floors, and easy access to the lagoon below.

Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa

Aerial view of overwater bungalows at Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa (left) and exterior view of overwater building on property (right)
Hilton Hotels & Resorts

Why choose between sunrise or sunset views when you can have both? That’s the luxury of a stay in one of Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa’s overwater bungalows, which dot the two bays bordering the island of Moorea. The W-shaped string of bungalows offers picture-perfect views of both the lagoon and mountain-lined island, and while the style is still very much classic French Polynesian in design, inside is the complete opposite. Marble-clad bathrooms sport rain showers, claw-foot tubs, and flat-screen TVs loaded with films. The best show is right below your feet, though, thanks to the glass-floor viewing panel.
