SmarterTravel Spotlight: AutoCamp Cape Cod

Editor’s Note: AutoCamp Cape Cod hosted the author of this story.

Have you ever dreamed of moving into an Airstream and hitting the open road? You can test out life in one of these iconic silver trailers at AutoCamp Cape Cod. In a new Falmouth location, AutoCamp has converted 88 Airstreams into luxury glamping suites where you can sleep among Cape Cod nature (but in air-conditioned comfort.)

Prefer tiny house living? AutoCamp also offers Vista X Suites, small standalone cabins that feature a private bedroom, kitchen, and living area.

If you’d rather have a real canvas camping experience (but don’t want to sleep on the ground), opt for one of the Luxury Tents, which feature king beds, heaters, electricity, and mini-fridges.

The Location

AutoCamp, a glamping company known for its unique converted Airstream accommodations in locations across the US, opened up a coveted Cape Cod location in Falmouth, Massachusetts in 2021.

The campground is set right next to the Shining Sea Bikeway, a beautiful 10.7 mile off-road bike path that winds through cranberry bogs and past classic Cape Cod beaches.

Borrow a bike and do the whole trail, or simply peddle a few minutes down the path to the charming town of Falmouth, where you’ll find a main street populated with boutiques, cafes, and ice cream shops.

Activities

AutoCamp offers a wide range of activities for guests. Complimentary experiences include:

  • Morning yoga
  • Bike loans
  • Stargazing
  • Live music
  • Art workshops

Guests can also sign up for locally-run tours like paddle boarding, birding, and photography classes.

The Airstreams

AutoCamp’s Airstreams are kitted out in luxurious style and feel more like a boutique hotel suite than a camper. The Airstreams all have individual heating and cooling systems—I stayed at AutoCamp Cape Cod in the midst of a summer heatwave, and the Airstream’s air conditioning kept the entire trailer perfectly chilled despite the 95-degree temperatures outside.

Equipped with a queen bed and a full-sized pull-out futon, the Airstreams sleep up to three adults or two adults and two children.

All of the suites have private outdoor seating areas with firepits and grills where you can cook meals, roast s’mores or simply sip a drink and stargaze.

The 31-foot Airstreams are thoughtfully designed and feel more spacious than their size. A separate bedroom features a comfortable queen-sized Tempur-Pedic bed with high-thread count sheets. A kitchen/seating area has a minifridge, microwave, sink, and plenty of counter space. Behind the many cabinets, you’ll find extra touches like robes and beach towels. Modern amenities include USB chargers by the bed and Bluetooth speakers built into the ceiling.

Private bathrooms within the Airstream are stocked with spa-like Ursa Major toiletries, walk-in rain showers, sinks, and flushing toilets.

Dining

AutoCamp is more about grilling around your campfire and enjoying the outdoors rather than eating inside at a restaurant.

If you’d rather someone else did all the meal prepping, AutoCamp has partnered with local chef Shawn Dailey to create BBQ kits and ready-to-eat snacks that you can grab at the well-stocked on-site general store. BBQ kits come with chicken or steak, plus homemade cornbread, orzo feta salad, and baked beans. Don’t forget to grab a s’mores kit to make sweet memories around the campfire. AutoCamp even provides everything you’ll need to cook your own meals, including easy light matches, cookware, silverware, cutting boards, a cast iron pan, pot holders, dish soap, sponges, tongs, etc.

In the morning, AutoCamp’s Clubhouse serves complimentary granola, tea, and coffee, as well as a variety of breakfast items to purchase (like a giant cinnamon roll).

Price and How to Book

Rates for AutoCamp Cape Cod start at $159 and can be booked on AutoCamp’s website.
