Broadway Set to Reopen With Full Capacity in September

It’s finally happening: Broadway is back, officially starting September 14. After over a year and a half, curtains will once again open in New York City. After over a year of virtual performances, you can finally sit in a theatre and experience theatre firsthand. The fall is the perfect time to visit New York anyway, so start planning your trip now, and book tickets to your favorite show.

If you have the itch to travel to NYC before September, you still may be in luck- there are outdoor shows you can catch, including: Shakespeare in the Park , Classical Theatre of Harlem, and NY Classical Theatre. 

As mentioned before, September 14 is the big day, and some of the biggest shows on Broadway are taking advantage and opening on the first date available. 

Broadway Shows Opening September 14: 

Hamilton

Seeing it on Disney+ isn’t the same as live on stage. Now is your chance to snag tickets for a fall performance! (Yes, there ARE tickets available!) It’s sure not to last, so book soon! 

Wicked 

Another blockbuster show opening to full capacity as soon as they are able to. Wicked has been dazzling audiences since 2003, and is sure to still delight. 

The Lion King

Hakuna Matata ain’t no passing craze, and neither is the success of this Disney classic brought to Broadway. 

Chicago

This long-running show is sure to still be a hit post-Covid. Get your tickets now to see this classic Broadway show. 

Lackawana Blues 

A new show, Lackawanna Blues opens for previews on September 14. You are sure to be amazed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson’s performance, as he plays over 20 characters in this one-person play.

This musical about the six wives of Henry VIII  had just finished previews and was set to have its Broadway debut the day New York City was shut down. American Utopia

Opening: September 17

David Byrne’s musical spectacle returns! You’ll find yourself dancing in your seat when watching this show. 

Come From Away

Opening: September 21 

This hit about a small town in Newfoundland, Canada that had a big impact for many on September 11 is sure to leave you feeling good. 

Moulin Rouge

Opening: September 24 

Fans of Baz Luhrmann’s film will love this Tony Award-winning musical filled with familiar songs. 

Aladdin

Opening: September 28 

It’s a Whole New World now that Broadway is back, and what better way to celebrate than with a thrilling carpet ride?

Opening: October 1 (Previews)

Opening: October 8 

A musical that is perhaps “better than all the rest.” Sing along with your favorite Tina Turner songs with this musical featuring hits by the legend.  

Caroline, or Change

Opening: October 8 (Previews)

This revival of the popular Jeanine Tesori and Tony Kushner musical was set to open right at the start of the pandemic, and will finally get its revamp this fall.

Girl From the North Country

Opening: October 13
